Luna Architecture + Design, one of San Antonio’s surging and innovative architecture and design firms, is pleased to announce its union with Mdn Architects, another strong San Antonio based architectural practice, to form Luna Middleman Architects.
The strategic combination will blend the creativity, knowledge, strengths and decades of expertise of the two practices, both with a history of leadership in their respective areas of focus in the architectural design industry.
The two companies finalized the agreements on March 1, of 2017, which marks to the day the 23rd anniversary of the formation of Luna Architecture + Design as well as the 44th anniversary of the formation of Mdn Architects. Robert Luna, founder of Luna Architecture + Design will become President and CEO of Luna Middleman Architects and will lead the now combined firms into a new era of growth, while Barry Middleman, Principal and CEO of Mdn Architects, will continue to provide expertise to the new venture with his 40+ years of strong leadership in the retail planning and development market.
The newly formed Luna Middleman Architects has a combined 67 years of providing solid design solutions to their clients in San Antonio and throughout the U.S. and will move forward with a team of 23 staff members with expertise in architecture, urban and master planning, interior design and visualization. The practice offers its clients a one-stop solution with a full range of creative media services in the areas of branding, graphic and web design, photography and videography that will continue to be offered from a division of Luna Middleman Architects, called Luna Creative.
Established in 1994, Luna Architecture + Design was recognized early on for its award winning residential design. The design firm has developed an expertise in the areas of hotels and resorts, restaurants, churches, corporate and medical offices, recreation, sports, entertainment, accessibility, and general commercial architectural design. In 2007, San Antonio Philanthropist Gordon Hartman, hired the design firm to spearhead the creative vision for Morgan’s Wonderland, the world’s very first “ultra-accessible” theme park. The one-of-a-kind park is a vibrant amusement park with rides and attractions even people with significant cognitive and physical disabilities can participate in alongside their family and friends. The special park has welcomed travelers from all over the world and will soon open the world’s first “ultra-accessible” splash park also designed by Luna Architecture + Design to include people with disabilities.
In 2012 Luna Architecture + Design added a sports entertainment architecture division to their practice called Pro Sports Developments (PSD). Their team designed Toyota Field which is currently North America’s most highly regarded minor league soccer-specific stadium and the proud home to San Antonio’s professional soccer team. The intimate fan experience and innovative expandable design introduced by the PSD team was the catalyst that allowed Major League Soccer to take a renewed look at San Antonio as a potential expansion city. Pro Sports Developments, which is currently involved in new stadium development projects around North America, will continue to be the sports entertainment division of Luna Middleman Architects.
The creativity of the Luna Architecture team was again on display in 2016 when the firm was the only San Antonio-based design practice to finish in the top 3 design teams in the San Antonio Riverwalk Barge International Design Competition that awarded the firm a second-place design.
Mdn Architects, known for its significant retail and mixed-use development design and master planning, has an extensive history of retail projects in the San Antonio, Austin, Boerne, and New Braunfels areas.
